NSSA Spotlight - Griff's Picks: Luke Tema

NSSA Spotlight - Griff's Picks: Luke Tema
We have partnered with the National Scholastic Surfing Association to provide a positive platform for rising stars of youth surfing. To keep it real, we asked World tour star and Reef ambassador and NSSA alumni his opinion on who is worthy. We are a proud partner of the National Scholastic Surfing Association to support academic and competitive surfing excellence around the country. The future is bright!
Luke Tema - Haleiwa, Hi, 16 years old. Luke made a statement at the 2022 National Championships winning the 2022 Open Juniors National tite. He made four finals at the 2022 Nationals - Open Juniors, Open Mens (4th), Explorer Mens (4th), Explorer Juniors (4th). We sat down with Luke to dig in a little about him and what he’s all about.
Q: So Griff picked you as a Rising Star of youth surfing. Is Griffin someone that inspires you?
A) I’m really grateful that Griffin chose me especially because he is one of my favorite surfers. I always look at his clips and study his style and technique. He’s worked really hard to get where he is and that is inspiring.
Q: Tell us what you are passionate about outside of a competition Jersey?
A) I surf every day but when the waves are flat I like to go golfing. I started golfing with my Dad a few years ago and now I golf with my friends too.
Q: What are your ultimate goals in surfing?
A) Ultimately I’d like to make tour and someday win a world title.
Q: What would you tell the generation under you if you had words of advice?
A) There is a lot of competition these days in surfing so it’s important work hard in all conditions even when the waves aren’t good. Also, surf with friends that push you to be your best.
